About

Poetry for All is an event series dedicated to the premise that art in general and poetry in particular should be accessible to as many people as possible. In other words, we strive to bring the joy of poetry and the spoken word to all. Our events are specially created for people with sight and hearing loss, and wheelchair users, but are open to everyone with an interest in the spoken word. We use fully wheelchair-accessible venues, and provide BSL interpreters and text on screen projections for all performances, and audio descriptions where required to ensure that as many people as possible can access the events. We also explicitly support a neurodivergent-friendly environment, and actively encourage Covid-safe behaviour.

We also know that finances can be a barrier to accessing the arts, which is why we strive to make our events as affordable as possible and ensure that our hard-working artists (let alone our interpreters!) are paid a decent fee for their appearance.

In the future we’re looking to provide development opportunities in the form of workshops, etc., both online and in-venue, and hope to be able to live-stream our in-venue events as well as provide access to footage for people who were unable to attend at the venue. Watch this space!

Poetry for All was conceived by Rose Drew of Stairwell Books and is run and hosted by her and Fay Roberts of Allographic. Find out more about how the concept came about here.
